Bitcoin Casino UK: What It Costs and Who Restricts You

Bitcoin is where nearly every British player starts. It is the coin they already recognise, often the one they already hold, and it is accepted at every crypto casino worth the name. If you are looking for a Bitcoin casino UK players can actually use, that familiarity is the easy part.

The harder part is that several of the best-known Bitcoin casinos name the United Kingdom in their own restricted-countries clause, and that Bitcoin is the worst of the major coins for small deposits on pure cost. Both are checkable, and both are below.

Chain figures measured 20–21 August 2026 from Blockchair’s 24-hour statistics and Kraken’s published deposit table. Median Bitcoin transaction fee: $0.2125 (£0.156). Average: $0.5879 — use the median. Block time: 11.3 minutes. Kraken requires 3 confirmations, about 45 minutes. Lightning: no confirmation count, near-instant.

We read the terms of twenty crypto casinos in August 2026. Among the best-known Bitcoin-accepting brands, these name the United Kingdom in their own restricted-countries clause — not a regulator’s list, the document you agree to at registration:

Cloudbet’s wording is the one to remember, because it explains the mechanism: you warrant you are not physically located in the listed countries “at all times when using the Website, including making requests for withdrawal or transfers of funds”. The clause rarely stops you registering or depositing. It stops you at cash-out.

Note also that 7BitCasino and mBit Casino are the same company on the same licence — Scores55 Tech B.V., licence OGL/2024/1307/0748 — along with KatsuBet and Mirax. Four brands, one counterparty. The full twenty-row table, including the brands whose terms we could not open, is in our crypto casino UK comparison.

What a Bitcoin deposit actually costs and how long it takes

The median Bitcoin fee on the day we measured was £0.156. That is trivial on a £500 deposit and meaningful on a £10 one — it is 1.6% of the deposit before you have placed a bet. Bitcoin is the most expensive mainstream chain covered on this site.

RailNetwork cost on a £10 depositShare of the deposit
XRP£0.0000093Effectively nil
Litecoin£0.000340.003%
Dogecoin£0.000950.010%
Ethereum (at 0.05 gwei)£0.0100.10%
Bitcoin£0.1561.6%
USDT on Tron£1.61 – £6.8116% – 68%

The reading is straightforward. For deposits of a few hundred pounds and up, Bitcoin’s fee is noise. For £10 or £25 at a time, Litecoin and Dogecoin are an order of magnitude cheaper and settle sooner. And whatever chain you use, the casino’s own flat withdrawal fee will usually be the largest single cost — check the cashier before you optimise the blockchain.

Speed: three confirmations, roughly 45 minutes

Bitcoin blocks arrive about every 11 minutes. Kraken waits for three confirmations, which it estimates at 45 minutes. Casinos generally require fewer than an exchange does, because their exposure per deposit is smaller and speed sells — but a Bitcoin deposit is still the slowest of the common options, and a 10 to 30 minute wait is normal rather than a sign of trouble.

Lightning changes the arithmetic, where it is offered

Kraken lists Bitcoin over the Lightning Network with no confirmation requirement and near-instant settlement. Where a casino’s cashier offers Lightning, it removes both of Bitcoin’s weaknesses at once — the fee and the wait. Support is far from universal, and the only reliable way to know is to open the cashier and look. Do not send a Lightning payment to an on-chain address or the reverse.

The volatility question, with real numbers

On 21 August 2026 Bitcoin was up 5.36% in a day and up 15.45% in a week — and down 35.91% over twelve months, sitting 41.9% below its all-time high of $126,080 set on 6 October 2025.

Bitcoin was the steadiest of the volatile coins we measured over the year: Ethereum fell 46%, XRP 57%, Litecoin 59%, Dogecoin 64%. Steadiest is not steady. A 15% move in a week is larger than the house edge of every game in the building, applied to your entire balance, for free.

The practical rule that follows from the data is the same for every volatile rail: deposit what you intend to wager, wager it, withdraw. If you want a balance to sit still while you are away from it, that is what USDT is for — though a dollar-pegged coin leaves a British player carrying currency risk instead, which we cover on that page.

Buying Bitcoin in the UK

You will need a firm on the FCA’s cryptoasset register. We read the register on 21 August 2026 and published the firm reference numbers so you can check them yourself, along with three corrections to the lists other guides copy from each other — including one widely recommended firm that is not on the cryptoasset register at all. That is on our page about buying crypto in the UK.

The one thing worth repeating here: FCA registration is an anti-money-laundering check, not consumer protection. The register says so in its own words — you cannot complain to the Financial Ombudsman about the crypto activity, and you cannot claim from the FSCS if the firm fails owing you money.

Tax: the winnings are free, the Bitcoin is not

Gambling winnings are not taxed in the UK, because betting is not a trade — the authority is Graham v Green [1925] and HMRC repeats it in its own manual. There is no tax on what you win, at any stake.

Bitcoin itself is a different matter. It is a chargeable asset for Capital Gains Tax, and HMRC counts exchanging one token for another as a disposal. Convert BTC into USDT to deposit, and you have disposed of the Bitcoin at that moment — gain or loss crystallised in sterling, whether or not a bank account was ever involved. Hold won coins while the price rises and the rise is chargeable too.

For 2026/27 the annual exempt amount is £3,000, with Capital Gains Tax at 18% within the basic rate band and 24% above it. Bitcoin has its own section 104 pool. The full picture — including the 30-day rule that catches anyone who withdraws and re-deposits within a month — is on our page about crypto gambling and UK law. This is general information, not tax advice.

Where you stand as a UK player

  • Playing is not a criminal offence for you. The Gambling Act 2005 targets unlicensed operators and those advertising unlawful gambling, not customers.
  • No UKGC-licensed casino accepts Bitcoin — but not because the Commission banned it. Its guidance permits digital currencies; what blocks it is FCA-registered payment provider requirements, mandatory prior notification, crypto treated as a high-risk source of funds, and volatility undermining deposit limits. In February 2026 the Commission began exploring how to change that.
  • You have no remedy if it goes wrong. No approved dispute resolution, no fund protection, no GAMSTOP coverage — and section 335 of the Gambling Act removed the old rule that made gambling contracts void, so losses cannot be reclaimed in an English court the way they can in Austria or Germany.

Frequently asked questions

Which Bitcoin casinos accept UK players?

Fewer than the listings suggest. Of the twenty operators whose terms we examined, ten name the United Kingdom as restricted in their own conditions, including BitStarz, 7BitCasino, mBit, Cloudbet, Wild.io and TrustDice. The safest approach is to check yourself: open the terms, search for “restricted”, then search for “Kingdom” on its own — some operators insert invisible characters into country names to defeat a page search.

How long does a Bitcoin casino deposit take?

Blocks arrive roughly every 11 minutes and platforms wait for confirmations — Kraken asks for three, about 45 minutes. Casinos usually require fewer, so 10 to 30 minutes is typical. Lightning, where a cashier supports it, is near-instant.

Is Bitcoin the cheapest coin to deposit with?

No — it is the most expensive mainstream chain we measured, at a median £0.156 per transaction. That is irrelevant on a £500 deposit and 1.6% of a £10 one. For small stakes, Litecoin, Dogecoin and XRP are far cheaper.

Do I pay tax on Bitcoin casino winnings?

Not on the winnings themselves. But Bitcoin is chargeable for Capital Gains Tax, and swapping BTC for another token — including a stablecoin — is a disposal in HMRC’s eyes. The 2026/27 allowance is £3,000, rates 18% and 24%. General information, not tax advice.

Do UKGC casinos accept Bitcoin?

None publicly do. The Commission has not banned cryptocurrency — its published guidance permits it subject to conditions — but the compliance requirements make it commercially impractical. In February 2026 the regulator started asking the industry how crypto could be brought into the licensed market.
